Crysis “Kicked from Server”

March 16th, 2008

Since applying the latest 1.2 Crysis version I’ve been continually getting “kicked from server” messages. Running a dedicated server on a network game (of which I’m the network admin!) this is rather annoying. I’ve found loads of posts on various forums about this happening to other people playing online games but haven’t found any relating to network games. Rebooting both servers and clients helps sometimes. Reinstalling helped, for a while.

Nothing as yet. I’ve tried reinstalling but no luck. Obviously more going on here than meets the eye.

One suggestion that might help (well it helped me the first time I had this problem but sadly not this time) is to check your Crysis lan server’s logs. If you’re runnning as a dedicated server you can see the logs on the server screen. You also have a log on your client computer (eg. located in Program Files > Electronic Arts > Crytek > Crysis > Game.log) By looking at both logs I was able to piece together that the server regarded my nanosuit as being hacked. I knew I hadn’t hacked it so I went to take a look at the files in that folder (on the client computer).

What I found that shouldn’t be there was a thumbs.db file. This is a hidden Windows file that is created whenever you view folders containing picture files in icon view. The presence of this file was enough to make Crysis think I’d hacked it. (To see hidden files in Windows Explorer you’ll need to show hidden files in | Tools | Options.) Deleting the file fixed the problem.

    Hope that helps …!

    Hey all

I looked at the logs and found i was being kicked from custom weapons so i deleted them. I’m gonna try it later. Your custom weapons, if you have any, should be in C:/program files/Electronic Arts/Crytek/Crysis/Game/Scripts/entities/items/xml. Whata mouthful. Somewhere in that folder.

    My log looked like

    file was game/scripts/entities/items/xml/emp_gun.xml
