Between sleep and waking

February 15th, 2012 by Kat Kingsley-Hughes

Between sleep and waking
I hear you turn beside me
and feel soft breath
upon my neck. Life’s
overwhelming warmth
envelopes me.  Greedy,
I turn to face you,
waking myself,
destroying the dream,
and, with my eyes open,
I greet the empty
mourning of another day.
